TiungSAT-1 is the first Malaysian microsatellite. TiungSAT-1 was launched aboard Dnepr rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan on 26 September 2000.

In May of 2002, the amateur radio payload on the satellite was designated Malaysian OSCAR-46, or MO-46.

Astronautic Technology (M) Sdn Bhd (ATSB) was responsible in developing this first programme. The micro satellite was released into its orbit and the communication between the earth’s control system at the ATSB Earth Control Station which is situated at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) was made.

This satellite measures 690 x 366 x 366mm and weighs 50 kg. TiungSAT-1 operates at the Earth’s lower orbit at an atltitude of 650 km and inclined at 60 degrees. It was launched with three missions namely; for Earth observations; scientific Cosmic-Ray Energy Deposition Experiment (CEDEX) as well as for simple communication application.

TiungSAT-1 is equipped with a Multi Spectral Earth Imaging Camera system and Meteorological Earth Imaging camera system which has a resolution of 72 m and 1.2 km respectively. The success of the launch served as the initial success for Malaysia in her effort to explore the field of aeronautics technology in Malaysia.
