SHAH ALAM, Sept 8, 2011 –Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili accompanied by his deputy, YB Datuk Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, MOSTI Secretary-General Y.Bhg. Dato’ Madinah Mohamad and senior officials made a visit to Astronautic Technology Sdn Bhd ATSB® today.
The visit was in relation to ATSB’s latest strategic development roadmap and business activities to synergise and administer its space and satellite technologies programme in line with the Government Transformation Plan and national economic agenda.
An approximate investment amount of RM200 million has been allocated as the Government’s continuous commitment towards the space and satellite programme for the second generation remote sensing satellite RazakSAT-2. This includes to strengthen, promote and develop R&D, commercialisation, as well as training and human capital development.
The visit is also to monitor the efficiency and performance of the national project, RazakSAT-2, in ensuring it meets the ministry’s KPI.
The strategic development programme is part of ATSB®’s aim to improvise and nurture space and satellite technologies programme as a pioneer and leader in the small satellite business in Malaysia. It is also aimed at promoting commercialisation of training programmes, research and development in the related fields with the recently launched Satellite Innovation Centre (SIC).
“Both upstream and downstream space activities are required to flourish the industry. The human capital development is essential for the new breed of knowledge workers while sustaining the existing local talent created as part of the “brain gain” initiative towards achieving the government’s aspiration to attain high income nation status,” said YB Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili.
